The short video profiles are featuring climate impacts in real time. Current clips include a beekeeper, a fishing guide, a wildlife refuge manager and a seafood market owner. More are planned, and will be featured on occasion on The Daily Climate.
According to a survey conducted by the Department of Defense between 2013 and 2015, at least one military site in every state has been negatively affected by some type of extreme weather, flooding, or wildfire. The survey indicated that damage has been done to airfield operations, training facilities, and transportation and energy infrastructure. As global warming continues these risks will grow.
Climate change is increasing the risk of larger, more intense wildfires, as warmer and drier conditions allow fire to spread faster and farther, creating dangerous conditions for residents and emergency services.
